Beerita.id – Dengan segala keindahannya Surabaya mampu membuat banyak orang jatuh cinta. Termasuk kaum ekspatriat. Egon Lassmann salah satunya. Pria yang kini menjabat sebagai direktur Maspion Hospitality itu punya cerita panjang tentang Kota Pahlawan.
Kecintaan Egon pada Surabaya sudah terlihat sejak dia menjabat General Manager Java Paragon Hotel. Kala itu, Egon yang memperjuangkan agar instansi terkait memperbaiki zebra cross yang ada di kota tersebut. Tujuannya agar tiap penyebrang jalan bisa terbantu.
”Menyeberang jalan itu cukup berbahaya. Makanya harus didukung rambu-rambu khusus. Kita tidak harus menunggu kecelakaan baru bertindak, kan?” ujar pria asal Austria itu.
Yang dilakukan oleh Egon mungkin dipandang remeh bagi sebagian orang. Namun, terkadang hal sederhana mampu menunjukkan bagaimana perasaan orang yang sesungguhnya. Itu pula yang terlihat dari tindakan ayah satu putra tersebut. Selain dilandasi perasaan khawatir takut ada yang celaka, alasan lain Egon mengusulkan mengaktifkan kembali jalur itu tak ubahnya ungkapan hati atas cintanya kepada kota Surabaya. ”Bagi saya, kota ini adalah yang terbaik. Dunia kedua setelah kampung halaman,” jelasnya.
Genap 10 tahun pencinta lontong kikil itu berada di Metropolis. Surabaya bukan kota pertama yang dia jejaki saat tiba di Indonesia. Di awal karirnya sebagai nakhoda hotel berbintang di Indonesia, Egon singgah di Lombok dan Bali. Dia hijrah ke Surabaya setelah tiga tahun berada di negeri ini.
Melalui pemikiran panjang dan eksplorasi langsung ke kota ini, dia memutuskan untuk menerima tawaran tersebut. Egon langsung suka dengan iklim Surabaya ketika pertama datang.
Ternyata love at first sight Egon tak salah. Surabaya benar-benar menjadi tempat persinggahan yang menyenangkan. Di kota ini pula, pria berkacamata itu serasa mendapat kehidupan baru.
Beberapa hal yang disuka Egon pada Surabaya adalah karakter masyarakatnya yang tegas dan terbuka, bersih dan rapinya penataan kota, serta hubungan antara pemerintah dan pengusaha terjalin dengan baik.
Kecintaan itu pula yang akhirnya membentuk karakter Egon menjadi pribadi yang selalu menomorsatukan Surabaya. Hal itu semakin dia tunjukkan saat dirinya dipercaya menjadi chairman atau ketua umum Casagrande East Java atau paguyuban para GM hotel berbintang di Jawa Timur.
Tidak hanya promosi di dalam negeri, pria bersuami warga negara Malaysia itu juga melakukan kunjungan ke luar negeri. Misalnya ke Malaysia, Singapura, Thailand, Australia, hingga beberapa negara lain. ”Saya tidak melakukan promosi hotel. Tetapi lebih kepada tingkat kunjungan mereka ke kota ini,” jelasnya.
Jika tingkat kunjungan naik, tentu itu berimbas pula pada okupansi hotelnya. Beberapa hal yang selalu dia promosikan tentang Surabaya adalah lapangan golf, wisata mal, hospital, hingga wisata religi dan heritage. ”Bentuk promosi, saya melakukan table top untuk menggandeng beberapa perusahaan penerbangan, travel agent, dan face to face dengan wisatawan langsung di negara mereka. Sejauh ini hasilnya sangat memuaskan,” jelas dia.
Stay di Kota Pahlawan lebih dari sepuluh tahun membuat Egon sedikit banyak mulai hafal dengan arah jalan dan destinasi penting kota ini. Bahkan, sambil berkelakar, dirinya mengatakan tidak akan pernah tersesat. ”Jika tersesat pun, saya akan menghubungi polisi untuk meminta bantuan diantar pulang. Mereka semua orang baik,” katanya.
Rutinitas Egon sebagai GM cukup padat. Bangun pukul 05.00 setiap paginya, dia langsung mengontrol kelancaran bisnis hotel kepada anak buahnya. Baru setelah itu, pria yang mengaku selalu menjadikan hari Sabtu sebagai hari mi instan—karena suka sekali–, mulai menjalani aktivitas lain. Salah satunya melakukan perjalanan ke beberapa tempat di Surabaya. Termasuk mencicipi kulinernya. Cara itu, dirasa Egon memberinya kesempatan memperbarui wawasan dan mencari ide segar lain.
Sekali dalam sebulan, pria yang berusia lebih dari setengah abad itu selalu menyempatkan diri ’’pulang” ke Malaysia untuk mengunjungi istri dan anaknya. Kenapa tidak dibawa ke Surabaya? Dengan tegas Egon menjawab, itu tak lepas dari alasannya ingin selalu fokus saat bekerja.
Lalu, sampai kapan berkarir di kota ini? Egon menjawab belum tahu. ”Mungkin ketika saya duduk di kursi roda pun, saya masih siap untuk berkarir dan memberikan yang terbaik untuk perusahaan dan tentunya Surabaya,” jelasnya.
Sebagai seorang ekspatriat, gaya hidup Egon termasuk tak muluk-muluk. Jangankan mengakrabi dunia malam, hari libur pun selalu dia manfaatkan untuk berkeliling demi pekerjaan. Salah satunya bisa dengan berkunjung keluar kota untuk kemudian dia jadikan inspirasi membuat paket wisata khusus. ”Bagi saya yang terpenting itu happy working,” tutupnya.
