Minyak mentah berjangka West Texas Intermediate (WTI) untuk pengiriman April, turun 3,03 dolar AS atau 9,6 persen menjadi menetap pada 28,70 dolar AS per barel di New York Mercantile Exchange.
Sementara itu, minyak mentah berjangka Brent untuk pengiriman Mei jatuh 3,80 dolar AS atau 11,2 persen menjadi ditutup pada 30,05 dolar AS per barel di London ICE Futures Exchange.
“Respons harga dapat dipahami mengingat bahwa suku bunga yang lebih rendah dan program pembelian obligasi baru tidak akan melakukan apa pun untuk memerangi kelemahan permintaan minyak saat ini,” Carsten Fritsch, analis energi di Commerzbank Research, mengatakan dalam sebuah catatan Senin (16/3), seperti dikutip dari Xinhua

Kegagalan untuk mencapai kesepakatan antara Organisasi Negara-negara Pengekspor Minyak (OPEC) dan sekutu-sekutunya, yang dipimpin oleh Rusia, tentang pengurangan produksi minyak, telah membuat harga minyak menukik dan memicu kekhawatiran kemungkinan perang harga.
Arab Saudi, Uni Emirat Arab dan Rusia telah mengumumkan peningkatan produksi minyak yang signifikan.
